Chlorine options: liquid vs. tablet
Disinfection is the final treatment stage before water leaves your system, and there are two common approaches. Which one fits depends on how your unit was built — don't switch without asking.
Tablet chlorinators
Tablets are stacked in a tube and dissolve as treated water passes through. They're simple to check — you can see the stack — and they take a wastewater-specific tablet. Pool chlorine is not a substitute and can damage the unit.
Liquid systems
Liquid setups meter a solution into the flow. They need the reservoir kept at level and the metering components kept clean, and the strength of the solution matters more than people expect.
Habits that add years to your components
Do
- Leave the aerator and control panel powered continuously.
- Stagger heavy water use — laundry, long showers, guests — across the day and week.
- Fix dripping toilets and running fixtures promptly; constant flow is constant load.
- Keep the spray field clear of vehicles, storage and new plantings.
- Write down what the alarm did and when, then call us with the detail.
Don't
- Don't flush wipes, hygiene products or paper towels, regardless of the label.
- Don't send grease, solvents, paint or large volumes of bleach down the drain.
- Don't skip pumping because the system "seems fine" — solids don't announce themselves.
- Don't let the chlorinator run empty for weeks at a time.
- Don't cut power to the system while you're away on a long trip.
A note on component life
Aerators, pumps, floats and control components wear from run time and from the load you put through them. Two identical systems installed the same week can be years apart in condition depending on pumping history and household habits.
